Kate Camargo Bio
Kate Camargo is a skilled fundraising and communications consultant with fifteen years of experience developing, writing, and managing grant-funded programs. She excels in translating complex technical program information into compelling proposals that have garnered millions of dollars from private foundations and government funders.
Kate got her start in fundraising as a Peace Corps Volunteer in West Africa, where, after a series of community meetings, she wrote a proposal and secured all the funding for a new five-bed maternity ward at the village health center. Kate worked at Penn State University for several years as a front-line major gifts fundraiser and later as the project manager for a National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant-funded institute. In that role, she oversaw the institute’s programmatic and budget management and coordinated its successful $25 million grant renewal to the NIH. More recently, Kate worked at a leading, international NGO, leading the teams to raise over $4 million in private grants, developing proposals to funders including Comic Relief USA, the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, the Keith Haring Foundation, MacArthur Foundation’s 100&Change competition, and the Center for Disaster Philanthropy.
Kate holds a Master of Public Affairs degree with a concentration in Nonprofit Management from Indiana University. Kate lives outside St. Louis, MO, with her husband and three daughters. In her free time, you’ll find her cooking, exploring local parks, or reading a good book.
